I’ll give some pointers on stats gearing up weapon and poison use and link some very useful sites. Cause we should outdps all the other weakling classes in the raid!!
Note that this is mostly about pve, though not exclusively.

For a very complete guide on rogues, most of whats below I copied from it =D
Though the builds on it are for 3.1 so you’ll have to modify those
WEAPONS/POISONS (it’s different for mutilate I think..)
-Use the weapon which has the highest maximum damage (2.2 – 2.8 weapon speed) in
your mainhand because that’s the weapon you use for your special attack
-In your offhand a fast weapon is prefferable (something like 1.6), this because your
the poison you apply will outdamage the actual damage you do with the sword itself
-Wound / Instant Poison on your mainhand. Deadly Poison on your offhand.
On a boss like Gluth in naxx use anesthetic because he enrages a lot!
Always carry a stack of every poison there is.
ATTACKS
In pve you always got to have your Slice‘n Dice running, not matter what build you are!
If SnD is running you can use rupture.
Only if both of these are running, or if the mob/boss is near death you use evisc/envenom
STATS
- Attack Power (AP),
- Hit Rating,
- Crit Rating,
- Expertise,
- Haste and
- Armor Penetration
Don't drop below special attack hitcap (66 or 99); beyond that stack Whatever Works Best, which will usually be Agility or straight AP. There is no “1 true list” of stat ranking, technically you could break it down to ~40 primary and secondary/derived stats for the 3 raidbuilds, and they all rank somewhere between ~1 AP and ~2 AP, depending on what exactly your build is, what your other stats are (ie: your gear) and what exactly happens in a fight.
Generally speaking
- Strong Stats: Hit Rating (Specials Cap) > AP ~Agility
- Average Stats: Expertise ~ Hit Rating (Poison Cap) > Crit Rating ~ Armor
Penetration ~ Haste Rating
Following numbers assume 5/5 Precision:
• 722 Hit Rating to cap dual-wield melee autoattack
• 315 Hit Rating to cap poisons application
• 237 Hit Rating to cap poisons application, with Improved Fairy Fire or Misery on the target
• 99 Hit Rating to cap Special attacks
